Dear Kiddee parents,  

It’s been a while but our weekly blog is finally back! 

This week K1 and K2 students are learning about HEALTH & HYGIENE and why we get sick. Because of GERMS! And what we can do to prevent getting sick, such as washing our hands often with soap, especially before eating and after using the toilet, brushing their teeth, eating good food and doing exercise.

This week vocabulary list is:  healthy, germs, wash your hands, take a shower, brush your teeth, eat vegetables, eat fruit, exercise, wear clean clothes, underwear, socks,  get plenty of sleep.

This week’s activities and vocabulary list (week 8)

This week’s topic is CLASSROOM OBJECTS. K1 and K2 children are learning how to read and write some new words. They are starting to understand how to use phonics (the sound of the letters) to help them read by sounding out the first/beginning letter.

Last week they learnt about DAILY ROUTINES in the MORNING and at NIGHT / BEDTIME.

This week’s vocabulary list:  chair, door, window, bin, whiteboard, computer, book, scissors, pens, pencils, paper, exercise book, bookshelf, paints, paintbrushes, eraser, school bag, glue stick, crayons, coloured pencils, ruler, desk.

Today for Science we did an experiment to see what kind of water an egg would float in. We had plain water, sugar water, baking soda water, and salt water. The kids guessed (made predictions) each time, what they think will happen to the egg? Sink or float? In the end the egg floated in water with lots of salt.

Week 5, June 12th – 16th (My Body)

This week we’ve been mainly focusing on reading, writing and locating the body parts and face parts. Vocab list:  head, hair, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth, cheeks, chin, neck, shoulders, arm, elbow, hand, fingers, legs, knees, feet, toes.

We also did some fun science experiment, such as inflating a balloon using vinegar and baking soda (The kids were pretty impressed with that one!)

We will be sending home all their worksheets / activity sheets from school every 5 weeks to clear out their folder. The children are so eager to take their work home to show mom and dad. 20170615_14310820170615_143152

Week 3 K1 & K2 activities

We started the 1st week of the semester with the topic “Me and My Family” and for week 2 our topic was “Our home”.

This week (week 3) we are learning all about colors and spelling, reading and writing the color words. Also, we now have SCIENCE 3 times a week, so kindergarten 1 and 2 children are learning a lot more through hands-on experiments and are excited to find out new facts about how things work and why things are a certain way. They’re always asking why? why? why?

Last week in science class they learned about the water cycle (how rain happens), the solar system (planet names) and ocean in a bottle (how oil and water don’t mix).  This week we’ve learned some new facts about spiders:  Why don’t spiders get stuck in their own webs? Because they have tiny little hair on their legs and spiders also have a special oil on their body so they don’t get stuck in their own sticky webs.  We also tried out a volcano eruption experiment today and it was a success! Lot’s of Ooooohs and Aaaaaahs and smiles and giggles!

This week’s topic is Pond Life. We are learning about some animals and plants that live in the pond.

The kindergarten class have been learning about life in a pond, some pond animals and insects name and enjoyed making beautiful water lily art with teacher Julia.   We are also learning about the life cycle of a frog. The children are now able to put the 5 stages of a frog’s life in order and say what they are.

Teacher Kevin taught the kids about what ocean / fresh water animals eat. What do whale’s eat? What do frogs eat? How about sharks and alligator? Do they all eat the same thing?

Water pollution — What is water pollution? How is water pollution caused? How does pollution affect the ocean?

Today the kindergarten class learned about water pollution. We watched a short video about pollution in the ocean caused by humans throwing plastic trash, chemical and oil from oil rigs and boats.  All the children felt sorry for the sea animals and said they don’t want people to throw trash in the oceans and rivers.

We then conducted a water pollution experiment. We started with a bucket of clean water and the kids added plastic bags, plastic bottles, paper cups, straws, plastic snack packaging, paper plate, dry leaves,  oil  (we used coffee mixed with cooking oil to pretend it’s the black oil from the oil rigs and boats),  chemicals (we used washing powder mixed with blue food coloring and water to pretend it’s chemical from factories).

The children used nets to see how much of the pollution they can remove from the water. They concluded that the plastic trash can be removed but oil and chemical cannot be removed because it is liquid and impossible to remove from the water, so the water remained dirty.

Some of the children said,  “I will stop people from throwing trash and oil into the oceans!”  They also learned that it is better to use cloth bags or paper bags when we go shopping and to avoid taking plastic bags.

What is a passport? What is it used for? The children have been making a play passport and learning about its use over the last 2 weeks. They were introduced to some countries, such as Australia, Egypt, China and Mexico.

For our “Ready, set, travel! Camp” over the last 2 weeks, the kindergarten class have been learning the names of a few countries, locating them on the world map, making a pretend passport and sticking on the flags and stamp of each country we have visited. We also talked about where each child come from and included their countries in the passport activity as well (Thailand, France, Mongolia, Australia, Russia, South Korea, the U.S.A).

We’ve made some form of  arts and crafts which show the culture and tradition of the countries we’ve been learning about.

They had so much fun during these weeks!
